GenScript [HKEX:1548]: Connecting Gene Therapy from Discovery to Clinical Supply

GenScript [HKEX:1548]

Connecting Gene Therapy from Discovery to Clinical Supply

A promising gene therapy can lose momentum each time the material behind it has to be rebuilt for the next development stage. A guide RNA that works during discovery may later need a higher-grade counterpart produced under tighter controls. A plasmid created for early vector work can eventually become part of a clinical manufacturing process. At each handoff, new requirements appear and with them comes the risk that the material used later will no longer perform exactly as the earlier material did. GenScript [HKEX:1548] has built its gene-therapy platform around reducing that disruption. The company supports programs from target discovery through vector and payload development, then into phase-appropriate materials and clinical manufacturing support. Its capabilities span AAV and lentiviral systems alongside CRISPR reagents and mRNA-LNP technologies, giving developers multiple delivery options without losing sight of what later development and manufacturing will require. The value lies less in the breadth of individual technologies than in the links between them across a program’s life cycle.

Vector BioMed, Inc.

Specialization That’s Moving Lentiviral Therapies Closer to Patients

Dr. Indraneel Ghosh, Director, Dr. Boro Dropulić, CEO and Dr. Michael Kadan, COO

A therapy can be scientifically compelling and still stall before it reaches patients. In CAR-T and HSC-based therapeutic programs, the lentiviral vector often becomes the pressure point. It shapes therapeutic performance, manufacturing reliability, cost and affordability, and the path to clinical use. Early optimization of the vector safeguards against expensive redesigns and speeds up implementation for care teams. Vector BioMed, Inc. built its model around solving that pressure point before it slows a therapy’s path to the clinic. Founded in Gaithersburg, Maryland, in January 2023 by veterans of the team behind the first lentiviral CAR-T therapy to reach patients, VBM is a contract vector development and manufacturing organization (CVDMO) dedicated to lentiviral vectors. “We felt it was very important to create a company that really focuses on creating processes that lead to more efficient production and ultimately reducing the cost,” says Dr. Boro Dropulić, CEO. Through LENTIVERSE™, VBM organizes its lentiviral work around two routes. VectorCraft helps developers turn novel therapies into manufacturable vectors quickly and cost-effectively, while LaunchSuite gives hospitals and clinical centers a faster pathway to popular and established CAR-T targets..

Treidlia Biovet

Australia's Specialist Partner for Advanced Diagnostics, Vaccine Development and Biomanufacturing

Dr Mark White, Executive Chairman

When animal health challenges fall outside the reach of conventional veterinary products, producers, veterinarians and biotechnology companies turn to Treidlia Biovet. As one of Australia's most specialised veterinary biotechnology businesses, Treidlia combines advanced diagnostics, custom vaccine development and commercial-scale manufacturing to solve complex infectious disease challenges across livestock, aquaculture and animal production systems. From emerging pathogens and farm-specific disease outbreaks to novel biotechnology solutions, the company delivers practical, science-driven outcomes where standard products often cannot. "We are pretty close to the animal industries in this country. We know where their problems are," says Dr Mark White, CEO. That industry proximity is one of Treidlia's greatest strengths. Led by experienced veterinarians and scientists, the company works directly with producers, veterinarians, researchers and biotechnology organisations to identify unmet needs and rapidly translate scientific innovation into commercially viable solutions..

AsymBio

A Connected Biologics Path to Commercialization

Rui Yang, CEO

For pharma and biotech companies, choosing the right biologics CDMO comes down to one fundamental question: can a single CDMO partner support a drug program from early development through commercialization while ensuring continuity? AsymBio is built to be that end-to-end partner, where a single program follows a specific molecule, covering early developability assessment, technology transfer, manufacturing and regulatory affairs and filing support. Founded in 2019 as a subsidiary of Asymchem Group, AsymBio covers a broad range of biologics modalities, from conventional antibody and protein formats to bispecific and trispecific antibodies, advanced ADC formats and other novel conjugates. “Our integrated model enables technical decisions, project risks, key milestones and manufacturing requirements to be considered together across the development pathway, helping clients accelerate their programs toward clinical and commercial stages,” says Rui Yang, CEO. Connecting Expertise Across the Asymchem Ecosystem Bioconjugate programs particularly benefit from this model. Developing an ADC requires coordinated expertise across small-molecule chemistry, protein science and conjugation technology. AsymBio’s Shanghai operations provide biologics and bioconjugate capabilities, while Asymchem Group’s Tianjin operations specialize in small-molecule chemistry and highly potent APIs for drug payload development. It unifies the Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) requirements of an ADC program under a single development and manufacturing model..

Beijing XiaoTongMingDa Technology Ltd.

Beyond Audits to Stronger Quality Systems

Sean Xu, Managing Director

Beijing XiaoTongMingDa Technology Ltd. is a holistic clinical quality assurance partner that moves sponsors beyond box-checking audits into sustained, system-level quality improvement. Since 2019, it has connected auditing with cQMS development, Quality by Design, Risk-Based Quality Management, Risk-Based Auditing, CAPA review and training. “Our services are designed as an interconnected quality lifecycle rather than siloed engagements,” says Sean Xu, Managing Director. That model is backed by experienced QA professionals and leadership closely involved in shaping quality standards across APAC. It also draws on more than 441 GxP audits conducted between April 2020 and January 2026. The resulting proprietary database helps the team detect recurring vulnerabilities in complex oncology protocol execution, central lab data flows and computerized system compliance before they become inspection findings or delay study progress..

EDITORIAL

Connecting Science, Development and Care across Life Sciences

Life sciences companies are navigating a period when scientific innovation must move closer to real-world application. Advancing therapies, improving clinical development and strengthening biological protection require expertise across research, manufacturing, quality and delivery. This issue of Life Sciences Review APAC highlights organizations building those connections across healthcare and biotechnology.

Our cover story features GenScript [HKEX:1548], recognized as the Top Gene Therapy Solutions in APAC 2026. The company supports gene therapy developers at different stages, from target discovery and vector and payload development to phase-appropriate materials and clinical manufacturing support. Its platform brings together AAV and lentiviral systems, CRISPR reagents and mRNA-LNP technologies, helping developers keep their programs moving as they progress toward the clinic.

AsymBio, recognized as the Integrated Biologics CDMO Company of the Year in APAC 2026, works across several stages of biologics development. Its capabilities include early developability assessment, technology transfer, manufacturing and regulatory support, giving clients support as they make technical decisions and reach key development milestones.

Quality is another critical part of clinical development. Beijing XiaoTongMingDa Technology Ltd., recognized as the Top Clinical Trial Quality Assurance Service Provider in APAC 2026, provides GxP audits, quality management systems, risk-based quality management, CAPA support and inspection readiness services, helping sponsors strengthen their clinical programs.

Animal health is also part of the picture, with Treidlia Biovet, recognized as the Top Specialty Veterinary Vaccine Manufacturer in APAC 2026. The company combines advanced diagnostics, custom vaccine development and biomanufacturing capabilities to address animal health needs across livestock, aquaculture and animal production.

The issue also features Yee Wong of Kemin Industries, who discusses biosecurity approaches to African swine fever, and John Benedetto of BioNTech SE, who explores how agility, collaboration and communication support complex global clinical development programs.
