GL BIOCHEM: Building the Industrial Backbone of Peptide Science

GL BIOCHEM

Building the Industrial Backbone of Peptide Science

GL BIOCHEM supports global life sciences programs through consistent, large-scale peptide production backed by controlled quality and reliable delivery timelines. How does GL BIOCHEM enable reliable large-scale peptide supply for global life sciences programs? Established in 1998 and headquartered in Shanghai, GL BIOCHEM is among China’s earliest enterprises dedicated exclusively to peptide science. From the outset, the company has focused on translating complex peptide research into industrially viable, quality-controlled supply for pharmaceutical, biotechnology and research applications. This focus on industrialization shapes its operating model. It has built a full-chain technical reserve encompassing laboratory R&D, pilot-scale amplification and large-scale manufacturing, allowing programs to advance into regulated development without material revalidation or disruptive supplier transitions. This also positions GL BIOCHEM as a single-source peptide raw material partner, executing complex sequences, long-chain peptides exceeding 50 amino acids and advanced modification requirements at clinical grade. “Our mission is centered on promoting the industrialization of peptide technology and empowering global life science innovation through efficient, greenand large-scale production,” says Dr. Hongyan Xu, CEO & president.

Seoul Clinical Laboratories (SCL) has been advancing in clinical diagnostics for over four decades and more recently through AI-driven prediction test service and digital pathology systems. These technologies are transforming how healthcare professionals detect and diagnose diseases, improving accuracy and speed. By enhancing workflows and providing deeper insights, SCL empowers clinicians to make faster, more confident decisions. Through its focus on advanced technologies, SCL ensures that medical professionals are equipped with the tools to provide better patient care. SCL’s commitment to technological progress is exemplified by its AI-based prediction test service, the first of its kind among reference laboratories in South Korea. It leverages AI to estimate the risk of urinary tract infections based on urinalysis results. By providing healthcare professionals with predictive data, SCL enables quick, accurate diagnoses, ultimately reducing the time patients spend waiting for treatment. The integration of AI into diagnostic processes marks a significant leap forward, and SCL is actively developing further applications of AI, including rapid diagnostic tools powered by large language models and computer vision. These innovations are paving the way for a new era of clinical diagnostics that is faster, more accurate and more accessible. “At SCL, we believe in pushing the boundaries of technology to empower clinicians with the tools they need to diagnose confidently and precisely,” says Kyoung-Ryul Lee, MD, PhD. Another significant milestone of SCL is its collaboration with Philips to establish the first digital pathology system among reference laboratories in South Korea. This enhances diagnostic accuracy by structuring and standardizing pathologic diagnoses. By digitizing pathology workflows, it reduces the workload and streamlines the storage and retrieval of slides, improving access to past data and enabling more effective clinical decision-making. SCL’s digital pathology system lays the foundation for further transformative developments in AI-powered pathology and big data research in medical diagnostics. Commitment to Quality Beyond technological innovation, SCL stands out for its unwavering commitment to quality and regulatory compliance. The company made history in South Korea by receiving accreditation from the College of American Pathologists, a distinction that underscores its dedication to maintaining the highest standards in clinical testing. In 2021, SCL also achieved ISO 15189 accreditation, affirming its adherence to internationally recognized standards for medical laboratories. These are just the beginning of SCL’s pursuit of excellence. In 2023, the company became the first clinical testing institution in Asia to receive the A2LA ISO 20387 certification for biobanks. This prestigious certification enhances SCL’s capabilities in supporting scientific and clinical research with high-quality biospecimens, ensuring that its storage processes meet global standards for accuracy and reliability..

Antibodies

ADBIOTECH

Shift from Reactive Treatment to Proactive Immunity

Hong Gul Cheong, CEO

Animal health is at a crossroads, as antibiotics face growing scrutiny and vaccine effectiveness continues to fall short. ADBIOTECH is stepping into that gap with purpose. As a next-generation player in animal immunotherapy, it has developed two breakthrough antibody platforms—IgY and nanobodies—to shift the industry from reactive treatment to proactive prevention. Its IgY technology is already being used to reinforce immunity and enhance vaccine performance in livestock and aquaculture. Meanwhile, its early exploration into nanobodies (single-domain antibodies known for their stability and specificity) points to ADBIOTECH’s frontrunner vision of redefining animal disease control through targeted, immune-based solutions that reduce reliance on antibiotics. In doing so, ADBIOTECH is setting a new standard for addressing animal health challenges globally. The best part is that the antibodies are produced through natural biological processes. IgY is derived from immunizing poultry, collecting their eggs and extracting antibodies from the yolks. It’s administered orally, allowing it to act directly in the gastrointestinal tract, where many infections begin due to pathogen entry through food. The antibodies are especially valuable for offering a noninvasive, targeted response. Nanobodies, on the other hand, are derived from camelids like llamas and alpacas, which naturally produce a unique form of antibody. These are about one-tenth the size of conventional antibodies, penetrating tissues more effectively and delivering precise, injectable treatments. The efficacy lasts 30 days with a single injection, a far more long-acting protection with minimal intervention. “Managing every step in-house, from pure antigen selection to large-scale manufacturing, within our Korea Good Manufacturing Practice-certified facility, we ensure uncompromised oversight across the full development lifecycle, translating scientific rigor into reliable, market-ready solutions,” says Hong Gul Cheong, CEO. ADBIOTECH is continually advancing its nanobody technology to improve efficacy and expand its applications. One such breakthrough is the development of bivalent nanobodies, which link two nanobodies into a single construct. This increases binding strength or enables simultaneous targeting of multiple pathogens. Another innovation is Fc domain binding, where nanobodies are fused with the Fc region of an antibody to extend half-life and enhance immune system engagement. These advances are making a difference in the field, making it possible to prevent diseases such as calf diarrhea, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) and other high-impact conditions affecting livestock health and farm productivity..
