Beechtree Laboratories is driven by the mission of addressing unmet medical needs that other labs have overlooked. It consists of two organizations, Beechtree Diagnostics, and Beechtree Molecular Lab.

Beechtree Diagnostics is recognized for its ability to offer comprehensive, customizable lab testing services. Physicians and professionals dealing with the difficulties of mental health, substance use disorder, pain management treatment, and court-ordered substance use testing rely on this CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited high complexity laboratory for its ability to constantly challenge the status quo.

Founded on the premise of “it’s more than a test,” Beechtree Diagnostics never leaves a stone unturned when it comes to innovation and client servicing.

The lab has made significant investments in technology to ensure the best outcome every time. Beechtree relies on state-of-the-art Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry testing equipment, a leading science, robotics, and proprietary algorithms and analytics.

Client servicing is another key area of focus for Beechtree Diagnostics. It has an expert clinical education team that is responsible for client education and advice. For example, many clinicians who request toxicology reports have often in the past simply viewed the results as a pass or fail indicator without fully comprehending the clinical implications. Beechtree Diagnostics provides clients with proper guidance on how to leverage the test results for optimal clinical outcomes.

Beechtree Laboratories has always believed in aligning with the changing market. In 2020, when there was an overwhelming demand for timely Covid-19 test results, it transitioned to the field of molecular testing. In response, Beechtree Molecular Lab was established in Anchorage, Alaska, during the summer of 2020. It set a new benchmark by bringing down local turnaround time for Covid-19 test results to less than 24 hours.

This was specifically beneficial for Alaska, which had to send test samples to other states for results. The lag in transportation and the slow turnaround times resulted in delayed test results that impacted patient outcomes. When Beechtree Molecular Lab established its laboratory in Alaska, it operated 24/7 and delivered accurate and very fast test results.

“We helped the state of Alaska manage the pandemic by delivering fast and accurate results locally,” says Chris James, COO, Beechtree.

For instance, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the key fishing plant in remote Dutch Harbor (That’s the arctic area highlighted in The Deadliest Catch TV program) had an outbreak. To stop a shutdown, the plant had to produce test results for its employees by the next morning. Beechtree Molecular Lab was able to deliver the critical results within hours; the Covid samples were collected in Dutch Harbor, flown to the Lab in Anchorage, and resulted in less than 12 hours, preventing the shutdown of the plant.

Providing faster results during the trying times of the pandemic was not an easy feat to achieve. Beechtree Molecular Lab addressed this challenge by working closely with some of the reputed logistics companies and airlines in Alaska. It never tried to reinvent the wheel but focused on teaming up with and utilizing the many great local companies that provided existing infrastructure and resources. Beechtree Molecular Lab follows this same strategy throughout the United States, providing testing services in nearly all 50 states.

The work that Beechtree Molecular Lab has provided in Alaska and the Intermountain West is a testament to its commitment to improving rural health care. Beechtree ran over a million COVID PCR tests during the Public Health Emergency, from Alaska to Florida and Massachusetts to Hawaii.

That reputation put them on the top of the list earning state contracts for the Utah Departments of Child and Family Services and Health and Human Services. Utah valued the emphasis Beechtree places on delivering leading science, outstanding client service, and fast turnaround times.

In the post-Covid world, Beechtree Molecular Lab has pivoted to other areas of molecular and clinical testing as it continues to provide innovative solutions, especially to rural and underserved communities.
